How did you get started with photography

I got started in photography 25 years ago, I initially studied photography while living in Wellington New Zealand. I enrolled in a foundation in photography course at a local polytechnic while working as a chef. I had passions of being a food photographer. For over a decade I continued to work in the restaurant industry, cooking, food styling and developing my interest and craft in photography. I then turned my love of photography towards a travel and street based practice, visiting and shooting people, architecture and landscapes in many countries and cities across Europe, the United States, Asia and Australia. Settling down in Melbourne around 10 years ago I become interested in the then new digital photography technologies, I spent time working and studying at RMIT university and graduated with a Bachelor of arts (digital art). In late 2015 I decided to pursue portrait photography full time, I started the freelance photography service CaptureSmith.com, where the bulk of my work was done shooting headshots and portraits on location around Melbourne using mainly natural light. Later that year investing in my own studio equipment and found a great warehouse space in Brunswick East to convert in to my portrait studio.
