camera Canon EOS 70D

Hi there, I’m Matt, a portrait and headshot photographer, based on the Upper West Side, New York City. I have a private studio on the UWS, but love shooting outdoors and on location. The most rewarding photograph for me is the one where the subject sees something in their photo they've never seen before. I love working with the client to bring something out of them - an expression, a look, a subtlety, a vulnerable, intriguing or beautiful side of themselves that they haven't seen before in a photo. But even in non-directed shoots (events, parties, concerts), I still love focusing on capturing the essence of the person or moment. Portrait and headshot shoots are my favorite because of the personal nature of them. I love listening to a client, seeing them settle in to a shoot, seeing them become more comfortable, guiding and directing them and really - getting to know someone. The true joy in photography for me however, is actually nothing do to with the camera. Seeing the joy someone gets in seeing themselves in a way they've never have before, finding new a confidence, seeing their own beauty, seeing someone achieve their career goals or dreams with their new photos, is really the true satisfaction. Whatever your photo needs might be, I'll look forward to working together!

camera Canon EOS-1D Mark IV, Canon EOS 600D (Rebel T3i)

Hello, I am a Manhattan based Editorial, Portrait, Lifestyle, and Food/Bev Photographer. I have extensive work with commercial - both marketing campaigns and product - as well as food and beverage. My passion comes from traveling and capturing moments, things, places I wanted people to see even if they were not there. It became a professional career once I realized I loved sharing my photographs & could turn it into something substantial. and, hey - I was pretty good at it. Highlights of my photography experience and skills: 1. Versatile in working with multiple creative teams and have extensive experience with Art and Creative Directors as well as Marketing executives. 2. Worked with & developed large teams with MUA, assistants, and models. 3. Have expertise in photo editing for clients within Lightroom and Photoshop. Ability to use Indesign as well for layouts and other creative additions to projects. My style is dramatic and bright when needed. I like to complete my shoots with minimal to little need for post processing edits. I use bokeh techniques in my photographs to show/create the emotions, product, and/or feeling. Additionally, I love using both natural and strobe lighting to get the dramatic effects for finished photographs. I like to show up ready to go and with energy to help clients through the process. There is nothing more unnerving for clients than having their business budgets and marketing budgets rely upon my work. Realizing this, I engage frequently and communicate thoroughly with the teams on shoots and projects.

How did you get started with photography

I first became interested in photography when I was in high school, but my family couldn't afford a camera until I finished college. I was really fascinated with street photography, and I spent a lot of days wandering and exploring with my camera to capture interesting scenes. Soon afterwards, I joined my first professional photo studio and learned all about new techniques including lighting skills, photoshop, and styling.

What do you love about your job?

I love catching people's real emotions, and that's always been my favorite part. I also loving walking in the city, feeling the different seasons and incorporating them into my photos. I love creating interesting color in pictures.

What are some of your favorite places in New York City to take photographs?

My favorite places in NYC are Greenwich Village and the Transit Museum.
