I always loved taking photos...but it wasn't until my husband bought me my first Nikon that I fell head over heals for photography!
I enjoy photographing couples and families! I love finding beautiful locations outdoors and making an adventure out of each photo shoot!
In the Portland area, I love taking photos at Pittock Mansion, George Rodgers Park in Lake Oswego, and Cooper Mountain Nature Park!See Portfolio & Book
My first real experience with photography occurred at my high school graduation. We had a cheap 110 camera while I was growing up, and a Polaroid, but I was given a Canon Rebel G as a graduation gift, which I loved immediately. I took a few rolls of pictures that day, documenting friends, family, and many memories... I was soooo excited to get the rolls back! Well, I unknowingly had the camera in manual mode, which I did not understand as an SLR novice.... all my pictures were pitch black. From that exact moment, I became fascinated with photography, and vowed to understand everything I could about my camera, film, printing, etc. I enrolled in a black and white darkroom photography course that Fall at my college, and never looked back.
I prefer shoots in which I, and the subject, are allowed to engage in a thoughtful act... to slow down, and to breathe. I enjoy technical photography, in which I am in control of all aspects of the image creation process, but the subject dictates it's/their own space and needs. Alternatively, concerts and events in which controlled chaos rules, can be extremely enjoyable, and some of my most successful images were taken in a moment that simply wanted to exist without help or apologies.
I am an outdoor enthusiast, and love to channel my inner Ansel Adams. I am also fortunate to live in the beautiful Pacific NW, a region overflowing with natural beauty. I find myself attracted to elevation, water, and trees, and strive to compose images that reflect the technical quality of the masters, while maintaining my own artistic vision/voice. Multnomah Falls (and the surrounding area, including Vista House), Mt. Scott, Mt. Talbert, Powell Butte, and other such areas are wonderful for nature lovers in Portland. When it comes to urban architecture, and human elements, I love to juxtapose old against new, industrial vs. refined, small details amongst grand schemes, etc. Historic homes, large public spaces, monuments, and large structures (cathedrals, capitols, etc.) all appeal to me as well.See Portfolio & Book
