Emily B.
Portland
camera Canon EOS 5D Mark II

Emily has been in love with capturing moments since she was a little kid! For the last 10 years Emily has pursued and studied Photography vigorously. She took Photography classes all four years of High School, and by the time she was a Senior she was in a college level (AP) class. Her intent was to go to school to get a BFA in Photography, but unfortunately her family did not have the financial means. So she took matters into her own hands...learning from, and creating with, other artists. As time went on Emily gained more experience, and confidence, in her work. One of her most recent photo's is on the cover of a local Portland publication for an entire year! She has also toured with the band Circa Survive for 3 cities with photos published on the band's social media. In addition to this, Emily also had photos published in Willamette Week and Portland Monthly's Online Magazine.

How did you get started with photography

I started photography in highschool when I babysat my little cousins. I would borrow my aunts camera, and go wild with photos of the kids. Soon, my Father passed down an old film camera, and said 'If you can learn to use this, and like it, I will buy you a good camera.' Little did I know, I would fall head over heels for film, and still shoot it nearly 10 years later.

What do you love about your job?

I love capturing the special moments in between what everyone thinks ~should~ be captured. The cute, intimate, private seconds leading up to the shot, and after. When the subjects are relaxed, in their own element, and enjoying that moment to the fullest, purely, that is what I love most.

What are some of your favorite places in Portland to take photographs?

My favorite place to shoot is in nature, anywhere green and overgrown, surrounded by big trees, or right in the Gorge. I love to use nature to mirror the beauty that is real life. The Pacific Northwest provides so many opportunities for beautiful landscapes, it is hard to pick favorites!
