More about Barbara H....

What do you love about your job?

I love being part of a client's experience and ultimately providing them with beautiful and creative imagery to go alongside their life's journey. It means so much to be able to such a huge part of a client's day during, for example, a wedding. You're with them each and every step of the way, all day through the wedding, as not only an artist and photographer, but also a support system in any way possible. After a long day of shooting, I don't set my camera down; I excitedly download the photographs from the day with butterflies in my stomach; I can't get enough!

What types of shoots have you done and how did you make them special?

I have done all types of shoots, but my favorites to be creative and memorable are probably engagements shoots. I'll bring all kinds of props and keep them in my back pocket. After getting all the typical "safe" shots, I'll say "Hey, what do you guys think about smoke bombs?!", and they usually are always down to play around and get some creative photographs. It's fun for both of us, and they are left with images that only I can provide for them.

For family shoots, I love to try to make the kids laugh, and get the parents involved in playing with their children. I find the special moments in these shoots always turn out to be the candid ones, and this is a great way of pulling them out.

Awards, honors, and recognitions received

In recent years, I have not really submitted personal work to any competitions; I've been so busy! That being said, I have participated in numerous art openings and shows in the Burlington area including shows every year at SEABA's Art Hop and ArtShape Mammoth. I have had work accepted to juried shows at the Darkroom Gallery in Essex, as well.

A fun fact about this photographer

I am a singer and musician in a band around Burlington. I also create unique but weird dystopian collages which I show at various galleries around town.
