Ben Martorell is a Milwaukee-based photographer specializing in professional headshots, family portraits, senior portraits, and for gatherings such as business meetings, birthday parties, reunions, etc. He is self-taught and has been working professionally since mid-2015. He loves capturing meaningful moments and showing the genuine side of people.
There are many things I love about photography. Seeing genuine smiles when I am taking portraits is one of them. You know the person(s) is happy at that moment and is having a good time. It is also really interesting to meet to meet all kinds of people and figuring out how to best take pictures of them.
What types of shoots have you done and how did you make them special?
For the company I work for, Visual Image Photography, I have taken pictures of school portraits and candids (in classrooms and for various events like concerts, science fairs, plays, etc.). School portraits can be tricky, as some kids get nervous. To get them to relax I usually say something silly to get them to smile (this sometimes works for adults as well!).
As for my business, I have shot senior portraits, family portraits, and events. To make shoots special, I try to make clients feel as comfortable as possible. The best way to do this is to have normal conversations with them. I also try to pick good locations to photograph.
Additionally, I volunteer to photograph events at a local organization called the Urban Ecology Center.

A fun fact about this photographer
I lived in Jordan for half a year in 2012 to study Arabic. It was a great experience. During that time, I also traveled to Cairo and Israel.
