Hello, my name is Carlos Amaya and I am somewhat of a self taught photographer. I'd say about 80% of what I know today has been credited to youtube tutorials, trial and error, and PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE. When I was in college I did take three photography electives. One of which was the most useful of the three. My professor taught us a lot of composition over digital editing. It was because of this class that I became passionate for photography. I grew an appreciation for the art form and that there is more to it than clicking the shutter button. You have to take composition into mind, your subject, colors, shadows, lighting, etc.
The reason why I love this job is because I get to meet and work with new people. I love the challenges that come with each shoot. I like the unexpected weather change, thinking on my feet, being creative on the spot. I love capturing different faces because of the few elements that make a face, everyone is different. I've always been intrigued by the infinite combinations eyes, a nose, a mouth, ears, etc. can make.
What types of shoots have you done and how did you make them special?
The majority of my shoots I've built a small relationship with my clients. Maybe a small chat along the way to location, or over coffee before the shoot to discus ideas. Building this little bridge opens the opportunities for jokes during shoots, get to know what makes the person comfortable or uncomfortable. Lastly, I always like to carry a bluetooth speaker to let my client play their own playlist during the shoot. They really get into the mood when they hear their favorite tunes.
Awards, honors, and recognitions received
Unfortunately, I have not reached this level in my career, but I am taking small steps to someday reach my bigger goals in photography.
A fun fact about this photographer
I like to noodle on my acoustic guitar on my free time.
