Ekaterina Soubbotina is a freelance portrait photographer based in New York City. She earned a bachelor's degree in photography from School of Visual Arts. She's been passionate about photography since she was a little kid. She never liked reading books as a child. She would always look at pictures from fashion magazines she was collecting.
There are so many things I love about photography! First of all, for me, a photograph is a visual record, evidence. It is eternal, unlike our memory. It will never let us forget. I love making photographs rather than taking them. I enjoy the process of creating something that doesn't exist. When I photograph, I'm in the zone. I don't think about anything else but my subject. Doing what you love and making money doing it is being free for me.
One of my favorite shoots I've done is Ink in Oil series. The series of abstract pictures I made using vegetable oil and acrylic ink. As a child, I always wanted to know how to draw. When I was in the process of creating those images I felt like a painter. Although, I had no control over the images. I had no idea what they would look like after I pressed a shutter button. And I loved it.
I finished music school and I'm a terrible singer.
