More about James B....
What do you love about your job?
I love the people. I pride myself on taking the time to get to know each subject. In my mind, being able to relate to and empathise with a subject is as important to a photographer as any amount of technical knowledge. I know I've done my job right when I look though my raw files and see the true essence of a person come across on screen.
What types of shoots have you done and how did you make them special?
I work predominantly in portraiture and real estate/architecture. With portraiture, I really love to take the time to get to know my subject. This means doing research beforehand, but also taking the time to listen to each subject as we work together, which not only helps them to relax, but can also reveal any useful creative tidbits that can be used to enhance the shoot. With real estate and architecture, it's a bit more technical. It's about taking the time and really thinking about each composition; searching for any interesting leading lines and patterns, while also ensuring that the tripod is precisely level and that each set of frames are exposed correctly.
