I have received my Bachelor's degree in Media Arts (photography) at the Art Institute of Colorado. I've studied both location and studio based portrait work with both natural or tungsten lighting. My skills with Adobe programs are within the intermediate level though I hope to be advanced within a couple years. I have experience photographing and delivering high quality images for my clients to both enjoy digitally as well as printed in the comfort of their own homes! With 6 years of photographing people it seems that portrait photography is something that won't ever fade from my heart. I believe that the emotional aspect of a portrait is the most important factor in telling a compelling and beautiful image.

More about Jay B....

What do you love about your job?

I love my job for many reasons, one of them being all the fantastic people I get to meet. Most often I hear that people enjoy taking an image and letting it be a signified memory that was told, and though that has its perks; my favorite aspect of photography is all the people I get to engage with and tell their story through my perspective. Its hard to meet a person and get to know them well enough to capture the essence they have in such a short amount of time, but its also easy enough to see the essence they want you to see. I enjoy learning how to make people feel comfortable in an uncomfortable environment. I also love being the person they trust well enough to capture who they are.

What types of shoots have you done and how did you make them special?

If ever interested in experiencing a photoshoot with me, know that I've done a diverse amount of photoshoots and I am not very limited. I enjoy taking all of my clients to the places they enjoy the most, whether thats eating out at local diners, staying home for a movie night, going hiking, or camping with their loved ones. Playing basketball or a scenic background for their portraits. Staying home for the kids to play in the sand in the backyard. I love taking them where my clients feel most comfortable, it tends to tell the whole story which is important in a photograph.

Awards, honors, and recognitions received

So far in my career I've received a few rewards, such as; 3rd place in the Hahnemuhle photography contest in 2015 and submitted to the academic art wall at The Art Institute of Colorado for 2014, 2015, and 2017.

A fun fact about this photographer

Other than photography, I really enjoy traveling, drawing, reading motivational and psychological books, while drinking craft beer.
