Jenny Sherman is a lifestyle and documentary photographer with a taste for the unusual. She grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and graduated from the University of Oregon's School of Journalism, and has since taken her camera around the world. She uses her journalistic training and eye for vectors and shapes to take candid and artistically striking photographs, and prefers to let the subject’s beauty shine through naturally. Jenny has worked for well-known brands as well as non-profits doing amazing work in the capacity of a lifestyle, architecture, portrait, editorial and documentary photographer. After moving to Southern California, she jumpstarted her career in image making, which includes studio and on location photography and video.
In school, I was trained to shoot like a documentarian - from wide to tight - telling an entire story of whatever I was photographing. I have taken that training too all the jobs I take, whether it is product or travel or portraiture. I love taking an angle or a perspective that others don't notice, I love surprising my clients with the unexpected, I love creating that really special image that others can fall in love with.
Travel photography is my first love - telling a story of a place and people unknown. I can find that newness and surprise in the shoots local to me as well - in the editorial shoot of an interesting person to behind the scenes of a production to documenting the interactions of a company with its clients - I love finding that decisive moment that defines and surprises.
I worked as a documentarian on a traveling school bus for two years!
