In 2007 I started a company with a friend of mine, and we began producing videos and photography for weddings and small businesses. In 2011 I was nominated for a Michigan Chapter Emmy Award for a video documentary that I produced for a school project. In 2011 I graduated with a degree in Digital Video Production. After graduation, I began an internship in the marketing department at the University of Michigan's College of Engineering; This experience, lasting nearly 2 years would kickstart my career as I produced dozens of videos and photos for the school's national presence in the news and media. In 2013 I took a new position in marketing for an entertainment and performance arts organization as video producer; here I would produce and lead the production of a variety of multimedia content for the next 5 years, until I took off to the Bay Area!
I love executing on ideas, and creating something from nothing. I have a passion for joy, and aesthetics. I have continually become more fearless when it comes to my work, able to try new things, stand on stage, and become a part of the moment. I think that too many photographers are too serious. I really like to have fun, be light, and flexible, and open-minded.
What types of shoots have you done and how did you make them special?
I think that my personality along with my experience as a documentary filmmaker makes me especially good at making people feel comfortable on camera. I'm always having fun, and just playing with the light, the posing, the framing, and I'm shooting the poses as well as everything in-between because a lot of the times, the photos taken in between the poses, are the most amazing.
Awards, honors, and recognitions received
2011 Nominee for a Michigan Regional Emmy for a documentary film that I produced while in school which was based on my best friend who lost 3 family members to gun violence in less than 2 years.
A fun fact about this photographer
I'm a fashion clothing and product designer, and am and creating a brand with my last name, Meria, which is a special name because it really isn't mine. My father chose to change his last name to the man who was more of a father to him. This man was Filipino but I have no Filipino blood. I feel that this name, Meria represents a lot; Life, family, adaptability, struggles, change, diversity. It feels meaningful to be attached to something that is not necessarily mine.
