Kathleen Kelly has been photographing professionally for the last six years in PDX. She has a bachelor's of fine art in Digital Film & Video from the Art Institute of Portland, where she studied filmmaking as well as photography outside of school. Her portfolio is a wide array of weddings, portraits, creative concept shoots, promotional materials, as well as theatrical production photos. One of her biggest priorities in photography is to create a safe and comfortable space for women to be photographed, and feel celebrated for who they are.
I love creating that emotional connection with people, and then when they see their photos, it's real and honest. Taking photos for so many women as well, having them say that they look like themselves and know that's all that was expected of them. No male-gaze, no photoshopping, just them, as they fabulously are. I want them to feel like they're are being photographed and seen by their best friend, rather than the sometimes very harsh eyes we see ourselves with. Honestly, no matter the spectrum and type of photography, it's all very intimate and involves a lot of trust, and I love the magic that comes out of it.
What types of shoots have you done and how did you make them special?
I have done weddings, engagements, portraits, headshots, lifestyle, family, theatre, and creative shoots. Again, I get excited about so many different types of shoots! I make them special by connecting with the people I'm photographing. I like to get to know them as I photograph them by asking questions, making jokes. I think ultimately, I make myself open and vulnerable to them so they know it's okay to be too, and I'm going to act a fool, and you're in a safe space to do so as well.

A fun fact about this photographer
I have a slight lisp from having an expander for 6 months when I first got braces in middle school, and I'm a huge Disneyland lover.
