My job in the ER as a nurse is hard, to say the least. I see a lot of sad things, a lot of things that make me angry and upset. I work long hours and sometimes don’t get to eat lunch. But what keeps me going is photography. When I’m photographing a couple in love, a mother and child, “I do’s” at the alter, or a senior graduating college, I feel so light. I feel important and significant. I am creating images of some of the most important times in people’s lives. On days that I am just peopled out, I fulfill my creative cravings with photography of nature, pets, and street life. I offer my clients a variety of editing styles to choose from, so I enjoy using different styles and techniques to make my clients smile. My favorite thing about my job, though, is getting that text or review after delivering photos that exclaims my clients’ excitement and gratitude. I often doubt their praise, but it is still such a great feeling to know that I have delivered happiness to someone.
I have done countless shoots from blended families to graduating seniors, weddings to ninetieth birthday parties, young families to three-and-under soccer teams. Recently, I did a shoot for a young lass graduating from college. She was bright and fun and had loads of personality. I wanted to capture her personality and bring it to life. We explored areas I hadn’t worked in before, played with lighting and shadows, and sipped margaritas at on of our college’s favorite bars. With every client, I start by sending out a questionnaire that asks about personal style, comfort in front of the camera, experiences with previous shoots, and preferences in editing style. I also offer customized chalkboards and options for settings (i.e., greenery, urban, industrial, campus, in-home).
I wish! Help me get there!
I’m a video game NERD!
