I like the plasticity of photography. Photos don't necessarily tell a story as it happened. There are gaps in photos, things that are open to interpretation. To me, what I capture is less about recording what happened than about giving the person looking at the photo the fuel that their imagination needs to create their own narrative. One photo can inspire a million different feelings and a million different fictions depending on who's looking.
I collaborated with a girl who runs her own mental health initiative to create a series of dark, moody portraits for a Suicide Prevention-themed shoot. We shot on the beach, which was a conscious decision. I live near the Florida coast and most of the photos that feature a beach setting capture a light, airy feel. I decided it might be interesting to shoot material with a darker, grittier theme in a setting normally associated with warmth and light. We featured the more muted tones of the model's black dress and the grays and browns of one of the many boulder piles that dot the shore.
I've played the guitar since I was twelve years old.
