Sam Vines works in film and television as a camera operator he's worked with some big names including double academy award winning Hillary Swank. He graduated in cinematography from the AFTRS in 2010 and since then whilst working on film sets he's moved into professional photography with one foot in cinematography and one foot in photography. He's shot weddings, food, portraits and corporate events for clients such as IBM. He loves creating a colorful expressive image with impact as much as he loves delivering the brief!

What do you love about your job?

I love feeling everything coming together for the moment of a photo, the subject, framing and lighting all intuitively connected to purpose for the photo. Form an function and colour all linked for an instant!

What types of shoots have you done and how did you make them special?

I shot a cookery book I used all natural light and light cutters to focus the light so I would get a really really natural feel and then we went out to a farmers market to find all sorts of interesting knobbly vegetables. This gave the whole book real character!
